18-19 ACTS Toolkit Project Review (PI Meeting), Oakland, CA.

19 Osni Marques becomes the PI of the ACTS Toolkit Project at NERSC, replacing Bill Saphir.
February

8-12 NPACI All-Hands Meeting, San Diego, CA: Osni Marques gives the talk The ACTS Toolkit, an Overview, in the Programming Tools and Environment Tools Session chaired by Joel Saltz (University of Maryland and The John Hopkins University).
June

1 Tony Drummond joins NERSC and the ACTS Toolkit Project.

5-6 NERSC User's Group (NUG) Meeting, Oak Ridge, TN: Osni Marques gives two talks on the ACTS Toolkit Project: The ACTS Toolkit (utilization, status and plan), for the Executive Committee, and The ACTS Toolkit (What can it do for you?), for NERSC users.

12 Letters of invitation to the ACTS Toolkit Workshop are sent to scientists at National Laboratories and Universities. Summer Internship (June-August): David Strait joins the ACTS Toolkit Project. David is an intern at LBNL/NERSC with a fellowship from the DOE Office of Science, Community College Initiative in Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Computing. David was given a briefing on the ACTS Toolkit, and his assignment was to select a tool from the ACTS Toolkit, and examine its functionality and easiness of use. Based on his background and interests, David selected TAU.

6 SDSC-NERSC Hold Joint Meeting, Berkeley, CA: The U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory hosted a daylong meeting with San Diego Super Computer Center representatives to discuss technical areas of common interest. Tony Drummond presented a quick overview of the ACTS Toolkit that led to some joint educational and outreach plans for the ACTS Toolkit and SDSC computational libraries for High Performance computing.

26 NERSC Internal Review of the ACTS Project (Improving the Usability and Effectiveness of the ACTS Toolkit) presented to NERSC's Director Horst Simon.

7/30-8/1 Globus Retreat 2000, Pittsburgh, PA
August

15 David Blackston, a former Ph.D. student of Prof. James Demmel (Computer Science, UC Berkeley), joins the ACTS Toolkit Project for two months as a postdoctoral fellow. During this period he worked on PVODE and also on a Pbody code for its potential inclusion in the ACTS Toolkit.

16-17 DOE EPSCoR Workshop, Berkeley, CA: Tony Drummond chairs sessions on computational sciences, presents project to workshop participants, and holds discussion sessions for future collaborations

28-31 Parallel Summer Institute, San Diego Scientific Computer Center, CA: Tony Drummond presents a tutorial on the ACTS Toolkit (August 28).

31 The University of Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos, Brazil: Osni Marques gives a talk on the ACTS Toolkit, Tools for the Development and Solution of Scientific Applications: The ACTS Toolkit.

28-30 ACTS Toolkit Workshop: How can ACTS work for you?, Berkeley, CA. The workshop was attended by 45 students and researchers from US laboratories and universities working on scientific applications. See official picture.

4-10 SC 2000, Dallas, TX: Various events and activities related to the ACTS Toolkit Project are organized, these include: Birds-of-a-feather on the ACTS Toolkit (Nov 8); talks on the ACTS Toolkit at the NERSC Theater (Nov 08-09).
December

1 Dan Quinlan (LLNL/CASC) visits LBNL and presents the talk Current work in the Overture Framework and the General Optimization of Object-Oriented Applications.
