Zhan's Application

I'd like to apply for participation the three day workshop on the ACTS toolkit. I am a postdoc in Geohydrology Section, Kansas Geological Survey, University of Kansas. My current research covers

1. Numerical modeling for hydraulic tomography

It is a NSF funded project and involved a large volume of field data and a very intensive inverse approach to identify the critical parameter in groundwater aquifer. A poster was presented at AGU Spring and we plan to make another one for AGU Fall. It will be great if I can use some of the ACTS tools for next phase development. I'd like to use Aztec or PETSc as solvers and Opt++ as optimization tool. I used SuperLU two years ago, but I don't know how to use it with parallel machines.

2. Moving mesh method and application to groundwater

It is a joint project with Mathematics Department and involved mesh generation, ODEs and PDEs solution to dynamically adapt the computational mesh for real groundwater problem. A poster was presented at AGU Spring and we plan to write a journal manuscript. It is be helpful if I can learn some ACTS tools and incorporate them into our C++ code for parallel operation.

Although I have already start learning a little bit of OPENMP for my Fortran90 coding, I think this workshop would provide me a great opportunity to learn more and use more. It will make my day to day computational life much more interesting, much richer and much easier. I am really looking forward to having an opportunity to be there.
